The district of Soran is known for its small-town feel, and beauty that blooms in all seasons. By 2027, tourists will be able to view and enjoy one of the world’s longest cable car lines with a length of 10 kilometers.

Nestled between high mountains and breathtaking greenery, the district is a gem often overlooked by travelers. However, its charming tranquility and rich sceneries that blossom every season, make it a local’s favorite escape.

Access to this beautiful destination has always been challenging, even with the locals’ eagerness to introduce it to visitors and their warm hospitality in willing to guide them to it. But this is all about to change! With the support of Kurdistan Regional Government, “Visit Kurdistan” has recently signed an agreement partnering with the leading Italian company “Leitner”, in order to build the largest cable car project in both Kurdistan and Iraq, aligning with its own vision and the government’s to broaden tourism and making it a central pillar to the regional’s economy.

A sneak peak of Soran Cable Car views - Set to operate in 2027

Operating year-round, ten hours a day, the cable car will offer visitors a unique perspective on Soran spanning over seven stations travesing over the high mountains and picturesque valleys of Soran and cumulating at Korek Mountain. This allows travelers to fully immerse themselves in the rich nature of the area as well as explore traditional spots like cafes, restaurants, and even resorts for an overnight stay!
